‘WEDGEWIRE’ ADVANCES CTO CROSSIBILITY Feb. 19, 2009

Since Brivant launched the new ‘Twister’ core wire technology at TCT in Washington D.C. last October, market feedback has defined the core wire as performing exceptionally well, particularly in the tortuous anatomies such as the neuro vasculature.  However, coupled with Brivant’s patented wedge shaped distal tip and varying tip stiffness’s from 3g to 12g, ‘Twister’ core wire technology has found a niche application in CTO crossing in the appropriately named WedgeWire, see photo.  The ‘WedgeWire’s unique leading end allows the physician to cross the most calcified lesions. ‘Twister’ core wire technology has been developed in house by Brivant following many years of research and expertise in the manufacture of guidewires.

‘Twister’ core wire technology is a stainless steel core wire with the performance attributes of a Nitinol, without the cost of course. It is superior to any guidewire core wire technology on the market, offering the springiness of a nitinol with the stiffness of stainless steel. It has been predominantly well received for the design of sub 0.018” guidewires due to its ability to track the most tortuous of anatomies. Other performance attributes such as superior 1:1 torqueability, pushability and kink resistance have also highlighted ‘Twister’ core wire technology as a superior material for Coronary and Peripheral guidewire applications.
